Thank you for writing this Charlie. I think this has been playing on the minds of all the women working in senior levels of VC businesses. This double standard seems to exist for non-founder female executives as well - not just female founders - getting forced out earlier than male counterparts would have, and being held to a “higher standard”. I wonder if the *only* way to fix it is to have greater diversity among investors - I can’t help but think that Uber and WeWork would not have reached the point they did if there were more women in the boardroom.

Great article. Also loved the fact that it was written by a man. If this were written by a woman, it would have sounded like just another angry woman. Thanks for writing this and giving us a voice Charlie!

The same thing happened to Theranos, when she over promised and "sold the dream" before they were there, just like most male founders out there, she got a documentary and lost her company. None of the poorly behaved male founders ever got a documentary. Zenefits, Uber, the list goes on and on. Thank you for writing this, we need more men paying attention to this issue and writing articles about it.

Thank you for this! I've been watching this happen in horror to so many talented—yet imperfect—female leaders. Bringing these disparities to the forefront is certainly the first step.

Thanks for writing the article. I don't believe this is only a startup/vc related issue. Any female who is "aggressive", wanting to "get the job done", "coming in hot" can relate to this. So many occasions when "if only i was a man" shouts out from a female inside voice. Thanks for raising the awareness. I have no answers, we just have to keep pushing as strong women... oh wait..

Well, that was a bit of history which just put a chill down my back. First time fintech founder here. Your end was exactly my thought as I had to pause reading mid-way through. I actually contemplated stopping my development to just walk away. Thank you for the history lesson as I've never particularly paid attention to this space before, and, so, well, now I know.

"—it’s that there’s a female founder who won’t even bother starting up because she knows she’s one bad day’s Slack thread or one heated office exchange away from being roasted on a spigot while her investors duck and cover."
