Very well thought out analysis, Charlie, and I agree with your conclusion - Garcia does seem like the most qualified choice. (You even inspired me to donate to her campaign.) And it looks like other influencers are starting to pick up on her qualifications as well: not sure if you saw, but the NY Times just endorsed her as well today. That said, I do think there's an element of, for lack of a better word, charisma needed in a mayor of a world-leading, cosmopolitan metropolis like NYC. And, for all of her roll-up-the-sleeves wonkiness, I haven't yet seen that element of her personality. (Which might be why she's been flying under the radar a bit.) But it's OK, at a time of great crisis like this, competence wins out over brashness. She's got my vote.

While I disagree with Charlie's conclusions, and take great exception to his attack on Andrew Yang whom I've known and worked with for over decade, this piece is typical of Charlie: thoughtful, well-written, and fundamentally grounded. I will certainly be ranking Kathryn high on my ballot...but I still believe that Andrew is the leader we need at this point in the city's history.
